Why you'd use this
Onboarding a gig worker touches tax forms, consent forms, identity, screening, insurance, and training, and the order matters. Ask about criminal history too early and you may break a fair-chance law; activate an account before screening finishes and the check is pointless.
This generator builds an ordered checklist for the verticals you run: delivery, rideshare, home services, caregiving, pet care, and freelance work. Contractors get a W-9 step (not an I-9); employees get I-9 and W-4. Every version includes the FCRA disclosure and authorization and an identity-verified criminal check.

W-9 vs I-9 for gig workers
Independent contractors give you a Form W-9 so you can report payments on a 1099. Form I-9 verifies employment eligibility for employees and is not completed for genuine independent contractors. If you are not sure which a worker is, run the worker classification quiz first.
Where screening fits
Put the FCRA disclosure and authorization immediately before the check, and activate the account only after the check and any adverse action process are complete. With PreHireBadge the worker completes the disclosure, identity verification, and authorization on their phone from a single invite.

Questions people ask about this
Do independent contractors fill out an I-9?
No. Form I-9 is for employees. Independent contractors provide a Form W-9 for tax reporting.
Do I need a background check for gig workers?
No federal law requires it for most gig work, but some states and cities require screening for specific work (for example rideshare or licensed care), and customers expect it where workers enter homes or care for people.
Does PreHireBadge provide driving records?
No. PreHireBadge provides identity-verified criminal, sex offender registry, and watchlist screening. If driving is an essential duty, get a motor vehicle record from a provider that offers one.
When should the background check happen?
After the worker has applied and, where a fair-chance law applies, after a conditional offer or approval, and before the account is activated.
