Screen & Verify
Unverifiable = refundedVerified at the source, or you don't pay.
A record reaches you only after a person at ScreenForge Labs confirms it. If a check can't be verified, it ends with no record shown and your $5 credit comes back automatically.
- Records confirmed by a person before release
- Verified at the source within 72 hours
- Unverifiable checks refunded once, automatically

How it works
4 steps, start to finish
- 1
Search runs
ScreenForge Labs runs the national criminal and address-history searches with the candidate's own identifiers.
- 2
Possible records go to review
Anything that might be reportable is held. Lookback limits and sealed-record suppression are applied.
- 3
A person confirms at the source
Records are verified at the source within 72 hours before release. Clear searches can finish without a second review.
- 4
Report, or refund
You get a Clear or Records-found report — or an Unverifiable status with your credit returned.
Why it matters
What you get with verified results
No guessing on records
Anything that might be reportable stays in review until ScreenForge Labs releases it. Only that release moves a check to Records found.
Automatic refunds
When a check is unverifiable, the credit returns once — no ticket, no dispute with billing. A duplicate notice does not refund twice.
Suppressed records stay suppressed
If the only hit cannot legally be shown, you see no record and the credit is refunded rather than receiving a report that hints at something.
Plain status labels
Clear, Records found, or Unverifiable — never pass, fail, or eligible. The decision stays yours.
Three outcomes, each one honest
Database hits are not the same as court records. Names collide, dispositions go stale, and a record can belong to someone else entirely. PreHireBadge only shows what ScreenForge Labs releases, and ScreenForge releases a record only after a person has confirmed it.
That leaves three outcomes. Clear means no reportable record was released, and a clear search can finish without a second review — which is why most clear reports come back the same day. Records found means a person at ScreenForge confirmed at least one reportable record, verified at the source within 72 hours. Unverifiable means the result could not be verified, so the check ends, nothing is shown as a record, and the credit returns to your account.
A refund is not a clear report. It is a closed check. You can send a new invite later if you want to try again.
FAQ
Questions employers ask about verified results
Still unsure? Ask Peter, our assistant, in the bottom-right corner, or browse the help center.
What does "unverifiable" mean on a background check?
ScreenForge Labs could not verify the result. The check ends, nothing from that search is shown as a record, and the credit is refunded once.
Is a refunded check the same as a clear report?
No. A refund closes the check. It does not mean the candidate is clear. You can send a new invite later; the old check stays closed.
How are records verified before they appear?
Anything that might be reportable stays in review until ScreenForge Labs releases it. A person at ScreenForge confirms the record, and records are verified at the source within 72 hours.
Why do clear reports come back faster?
A clear search can finish without a second review. Most clear reports are ready the same day.
