How it works

3 steps, start to finish

  1. 1

    Acknowledge at signup

The owner acknowledges the Notice to Users while creating the account, and a copy is emailed.

  2. 2

    Open Documents

From the dashboard, open the library at any time.

  3. 3

    Use what you need

Show the agreement to an auditor, share the policy draft internally, or check which notices a candidate received.

Why it matters

What you get with notices & documents

Proof of what you signed

The employer agreement shows its version and a document fingerprint, so you can show exactly which terms applied.

Official model forms

The Notice to Users follows 12 CFR 1022 Appendix N; the candidate Summary of Rights is the CFPB model form.

A policy starting point

Use the sample background-check policy as a draft for your own — then adapt it with your advisor.

Available to the whole account

Anyone on the company account can open the library. Report content stays limited by role.

The documents an employer is supposed to have — already there

Employers that use consumer reports have obligations described in the Notice to Users of Consumer Reports (12 CFR 1022, Appendix N). Candidates are owed the Summary of Your Rights Under the FCRA. You also have an agreement with the consumer reporting agency that says you'll use reports only for a permissible purpose. Most small employers can't find any of these when asked.

In PreHireBadge, Documents is a page on the dashboard. Open the signed employer agreement to see the version and its document fingerprint. Open the Notice to Users — the owner acknowledges it during signup, and a copy is emailed when the account is created. The candidate copy of the Summary of Rights is the CFPB model form.

A sample background-check policy gives you a starting point for your own written policy. State notice text stays marked draft until counsel approves it, and the library never publishes candidate reports.

FAQ

Questions employers ask about notices & documents

Still unsure? Ask Peter, our assistant, in the bottom-right corner, or browse the help center.

What is the Notice to Users of Consumer Reports?

A federal notice describing an employer's obligations when it uses consumer reports. PreHireBadge's copy follows 12 CFR 1022 Appendix N, and the owner acknowledges it during signup.

Does the candidate get the Summary of Rights?

Yes. The candidate copy is the CFPB model form, and it is included with the pre-adverse notice.

Can I use the sample background check policy as-is?

Use it as a starting point. It is a sample, not legal advice — adapt it to your business with your advisor.

Who can see the Documents library?

Anyone on the company account. The library does not publish candidate reports.
